History OF Lego

The Lego Group began in a wooden handicraft businesses owned Ole Kirk Chiristiansen, in the town of Billund, Denmark. In 1916, Christiansen purchased a wooden craft shop in Billund which has been in operation since 1895. This store most of their work is to help build houses and furniture manufacturing, as well as having some of the employees. This store burned in 1924, occurred because the fire was lit by two sons Christiansen burn some wood crafts there. Ole Kirk then build a larger wooden crafts, and trying to expand its business further. When the Great Depression happened, Ole Kirk living has little pelanggam and should concentrate on small projects. He began his producing miniature versions of its products as auxiliary design. Models miniature ladder and an ironing board is what inspired him to begin producing toys.

(Note: According to an official Lego in Denmark, Ole Kirk steps to produce the actual toys inspired by the government and not from ourselves. Many books and articles reject this story, stating that Ole Kirk actually actively decided to continue its business in the manufacture of toys . However, various memories and personal stories from people around him when it shows that when Ole Kirk store went bankrupt in 1932, is a local social worker handling the case suggested, or even encourage, Ole Kirk to make toys.)

In 1932, Ole Kirk's shop started making wooden toys such as piggy banks, handcart, toy cars and toy trucks. This business is not profitable because they initially during the depression. Farmers in the area sometimes exchange food with homemade toys; Ole Kirk continue producing practical furniture in addition to toys in order to attempt to survive. In the mid-1930s, Yo-yo toy fame gave a brief period of increased activity in the business until suddenly this condition disappears. To reduce waste, Ole Kirk uses the remnants of the yo-yo as a part of a toy truck wheel. His son, Godtfred, started working for him, holding an active role in the company.

In 1934, Ole Kirk held a competition in anatara employees to give a new name to the company, the prize was a bottle of homemade wine. Christiansen is considering its own two names for the company, "Legion" (to refer to the phrase "Legion Baby") and "Lego", which made its own abbreviation of the phrase leg godt, Danish language, which means "play well." Later Lego Group found that the word "Lego" can be freely interpreted "I compose" or "I assemble" in Latin. Ole Kirk choose a name that consideration alone, Lego, and the company began using the name in their products .

After World War II, the plastic is present in Denmark, and Lego buy a set of plastic injection molding machine in 1947. One modular toy was first produced is a toy truck that can be disassembled and reassembled. In 1947, Ole Kirk and Godtfred obtain samples of goods plastic bricks that can be mutually attached to one another (interlocking) are manufactured by companies Kiddicraft. Products "Kiddicraft Self-Locking Building Bricks" was designed and patented in England by Mr. Hilary Harry Fisher Page, a British citizen. In 1949 the Lego Group began producing similar bricks, named "Automatic Binding Bricks" (Brick Fitted Automatically). Lego brick, which was produced from cellulose acetate material, developed according to the basics of traditional wood chunks that can be arranged on top of each other, but could be "glued" together. This product has several round bulge at the top and the bottom of the hollow rectangular shaped. These bricks will be attached to one another, but not so tightly that they can not be separated again. In 1953 the bricks have given a new name: Lego Mursten, or "Lego Bricks".

Plastic products initially not well received by the buyer, who chose wood or metal toys. Many delivery Lego returned due to poor sales. In 1954, Godtfred became Managing Director of Junior at the Lego Group. Godtfred conversation with an overseas buyer gave birth to the idea of a "system" toy, with a lot of toys in a production line. Godtfred evaluate all available products, and see that the plastic brick is the most suitable for the "system". In 1955, Lego launched the "Town Plan" (Plan of Urban Planning), as it is a system, which uses bricks to build it.

Brick building is pretty well accepted by the market, but it has some problems on the technical side: the ability to "inherent" was very limited, and the bricks is not very versatile. In 1958 the bricks is enhanced with hollow cylinders underneath. This adds strength at the bottom, increasing the ability to attach to and usefulness. The company patented the design of new products, in addition to several other similar designs, to refrain from business rivals. In the same year, Ole Kirk Christiansen died, and Godtfred inherited leadership of the company's seat.
